We are looking for a SQL developer with experience in database design. This contract role involves designing and creating the database schema for a new application. You will be responsible for defining tables, columns, data types, and relationships (foreign keys). You will work closely with our application developers to create a logical and efficient data model that meets the needs of the application. Your work will be the foundation of our new product's data layer.

This is a critical, foundational role for our new project. As the Database Schema Designer, you will be responsible for creating the blueprint for our data. A well-designed schema is essential for the performance, scalability, and maintainability of our application, and you will be the one to create it.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with product managers and developers to understand the data requirements of the new application.
• Create a logical data model that accurately represents the business domain.
• Translate the logical model into a physical database schema, defining tables, columns, primary keys, foreign keys, and indexes.
• Choose appropriate data types and define constraints to ensure data integrity.
• Write the Data Definition Language (DDL) scripts to create the schema in our database (PostgreSQL).
• Normalize the database schema to reduce data redundancy and improve data integrity.
• Document the schema using diagrams and descriptions.

Who you are:

You are a developer with a strong understanding of relational database theory and a practical approach to schema design. You can think abstractly about data models but also understand the performance implications of your design choices. This role is perfect for a SQL developer who enjoys the design and architecture phase of a project and wants to create a solid foundation for a new application.

• 2+ years of experience working with SQL databases.
• Strong understanding of relational database design principles, including normalization.
• Experience writing DDL scripts (CREATE TABLE, ALTER TABLE, etc.).
• Ability to create data models and diagrams.
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with a team.
