The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a talented Research Engineer - Software/Data Engineer (RE2) to join our Life Sciences and Earth System departments. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize software pipelines for processing large datasets from scientific simulations and experiments. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate data engineering solutions into HPC workflows, ensuring scalability and efficiency. Key responsibilities include developing algorithms for data ingestion, transformation, and analysis, as well as contributing to open-source tools that advance computational research. This position offers the chance to work on impactful projects addressing global challenges in climate modeling, bioinformatics, and beyond, while leveraging BSC's world-renowned MareNostrum supercomputer.

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, or C++ for software development
• Experience with data engineering tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or SQL databases
• Knowledge of machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch
• Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and parallel processing
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of Spanish or Catalan is a plus
